Terms

 

TCP/IP
TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol & is quite simply a standard set of protocols that govern the basic workings of the Internet that was implemented in 1982.

Telnet
Telnet is program that is part of the TCP/IP protocol. Its purpose is to allow a user to logon to a computer from a remote location.

Intranet
An internal or Company Internet that can be used by anyone who is directly connected to the companies computer network

CGI
Common Gateway Interface Scripts are used by Internet Programmers to perform basic functions such as counting the number of
times a Web Page is accessed

Cache
A Cache Memory is a small but very fast memory used to store frequently used Data or instructions. It tries to "guess" what data is going to be needed next by the Processor. The Cache can be:-

Level 1 (Primary) Cache - part of the processor itself - fast & expensive
Level 2 (Secondary) Cache - Mounted on the Motherboard slower than Level 1

JavaScript
JavaScript is a Programming Language for developing Client Internet applications. The WEB Browser interprets JavaScript statements embedded in an HTML page. LiveWire is the Server based equivalent that enables you to create applications similar to Common Gateway Interface (CGI) programs.

 


 

User Guide

 

How to Navigate

To navigate the Intranet use the Buttons on the left hand side of the page. These will be visible from every page on the Intranet. Using the 'Back' button in the Navigator Window will allow you to go back to the previous page.

 

How to make Suggestions

To make suggestions or comments regarding the Intranet Content or Layout, use the Form on the Feedback Page. Once you have submitted this form an Email will be sent to the Administrator with your comments and suggestions.

 

How to Print Page Information

To print information from the Intranet Pages use the Print Frame Menu Item from the File Menu of the Brower. This will print only the current frame. You may need to click once on the relevant frame to ensure the correct frame is printed.
